Wonderfully Woman

Denise is excited to share with you a new collection of works that mark a change in direction for her practice. The works explore the female figure through collage and use painted paper, paint, pencil and oil pastels to build form and narrative.

In this collection, Denise explores the complex relationship women have with their bodies through exaggerated shape, distortion, line and colour. The works are a joyful celebration of femininity. Denise hopes that in seeing these works, woman will feel empowered and see parts of themselves reflected back. These works are produced from a combination of life drawing, photographs and memory.

‘I wanted to make work that would challenge me and put fun and play at the forefront of my practice. To create an environment where I wouldn’t necessarily know what the outcome would be and where there I could make and embrace mistakes as part of the ‘finished’ piece.

This collection has reconnected me with the joy of creating and reminded me that I am, at heart, a colourist. Using scissors as my paintbrush has been a liberating experience and I have found a new way of working that I know will inform my future work. I have loved every minute of creating these new works and I hope you love them too’
